MASERU — They came looking for her husband.

But when they could not find him, they turned their guns on his wife.

The 38-year-old woman from Ha-Tsautse died from wounds sustained during the attack.

The woman’s husband was arrested and released on bail last month in connection with a murder charge.

Police spokesman Masupha Masupha said the men appeared bent on exacting revenge for their relative’s death.

“They came to look for the man and when they did not find him they went to his house here in Maseru where they found his wife. They then shot her dead,” Masupha said.

He said police investigations were underway.

Meanwhile, three men aged between 21 and 51 were arrested in Mapoteng for allegedly killing a 35-year-old man they suspected of stealing their sheep.

The three are said to have assaulted the man before shooting him dead.

Police confiscated a 9mm gun from one of the accused.

“Its serial number was rubbed off which makes us believe the firearm is illegal,” Masupha said.

Masupha called on members of the public to desist from exacting mob justice as this was a crime.

“We appeal to people not to take the law into their own hands. By doing that they are committing yet another crime,” he said.

“People should inform the police if they have a suspect. Suspects should be kept safely in custody until police arrest them.”
