A NIGHT of rib-cracking entertainment is in the offing as South African award-winning comedian, Mashabela “Papago” Galane and his compatriot, Collen “Salesman” Chepi alias Botsisa make their debut performance in Lesotho on 1 October 2016.
The duo popularly known as Botsisa Bo Papago will share the stage at Victory Centre in Moshoeshoe II with local comics Lilaphalapha, Tieho Khahau, BsB Da Comedian, Tsolo, Masapo and Dumisane.
Last year, Mashabela became the inaugural winner of the Non-English Award category in the South African Comic Choice Awards.
He has also won the Ikusasa Young Comedian award in that country in 2012 and appeared in several South African shows such as Macufe Comedy Show, Tshwane Mzansi Fela Comedy Festival and Strictly Venack Comedy Show.
He teamed up with Salesman in 2014 and the duo has performed in many countries under the tagline Mashabela Le Salesman Ka Comedy Botsisa Bo Papago.
One of the tour organisers Bofihla “Lilaphalapha” Neko this week told the Weekender the upcoming show was also aimed at creating and enhancing networks between local and international comedians.
“We are trying to build a comedy empire by networking with renowned comedians from other countries so we succeed internationally. We are aiming to visit their countries after hosting them,” Neko said.
“The duo is among the best Venack (a combination of African languages) comedians South Africa has to offer and it would be an honour building relations with them.
“I have been following their work for a long time and tried to bring them here before but that was not possible due to their busy schedule.”
Neko also revealed proceeds from the event would go towards an ongoing project to provide underprivileged girls with sanitary pads spearheaded by the Wildcats Spin and Drift Association.
“We stated during the launch of the Wildcats Spin and Drift Association that we would contribute to the provision of sanitary towels to vulnerable girls. We will donate part of the earnings of the show to that project as the aim is to assist the girls every month,” he said.
