MASERU — Prime Minister Thomas Thabane yesterday toured the Metolong Water Project site in Thaba-Bosiu to inspect progress on the dam.
Thabane was accompanied by Water Affairs Minister Timothy Thahane, Minister in the Prime Minister’s office Molobeli Soulo and other senior government officials.
The tour came a few weeks after a major milestone was reached at Metolong with the placement of the first layer of roller compacted concrete on August 5.
Thabane appealed to villagers in Thaba-Bosiu not to vandalise the facility as it is for the benefit of Basotho.
He said the community will have access to clean water.
“We are indeed very happy with the progress of the project,” Thabane said.
“The villagers should bear in mind that the property is for Basotho and if they ruin things here they won’t be doing any justice to themselves.”
Metolong Dam coordinator, David Bosshart, said the project is nearly complete with the visitor centre about 50 percent complete.
Bosshart said they plan to start delivering treated water to Maseru in the third quarter of 2014.
The dam is expected to be completed in 2015.
