STANDARD Lesotho Bank has expanded its footprint in the country after launching its Cathedral Area Branch in Maseru last week Friday.

Speaking at the ceremony, the governor of the Central Bank of Lesotho (CBL), Maluke Letete, said it was the responsibility of banks to drive the economy. No economy could ever thrive without banking services.

He urged the blue bank to serve its clients with humility and always bear in mind that a customer was king.

He said if banks were efficient in delivering services, the economy would grow in tandem as well.

“Your staff must know that the customer is always right and treat the bank’s clients with respect,” Dr Letete said.

For his part, Standard Lesotho Bank’s CEO, Anton Nicolasen, said they as banks understood that they played a crucial role in economic development and growth of the country.

“We remain a trusted partner in Lesotho by supporting the prosperity of the local community and those who live around it. Our vision is to provide innovative financial services to Basotho. We also play a vital role in promoting financial inclusion through the services we provide.

“Our staff make us proud daily and Standard Bank is proud to be part of the solutions (to resolving the country’s problems),” Mr Nicolasen said.

He said he was proud that the building was constructed by Basotho.

In addition, the Branch Manager, Rethabile Motsoahae, said Standard Lesotho Bank was the largest commercial bank in the country.

“The new branch came as a result of our commitment to promote safe and reliable banking for Basotho and to serve them in a convenient place,” he said.

He urged all staff to take care of the new branch and be protective of it.

One of Standard Bank’s customers, ‘Matiisetso Ramothamo, said the bank’s expansion programme had brought services closer to her community.  They no longer had to travel to downtown Maseru to access services at the bank’s City or Pioneer Mall branches.
