SENTEBALE GAP Funeral Services has made a significant impact by donating various vegetable seeds to the Butha-Buthe correctional facility.

The donation, which was made on October 29, 2024, stems from a direct appeal by the Commissioner of Prisons, Mating Nkakala, who sought essential seeds to enhance agricultural production within the rehabilitation centre.

Senior Superintendent Neo Moramotse, the Director of the Counselling Centre for detainees in Botha-Bothe, confirmed that they had proactively approached Sentebale GAP Funeral Services for support.

Sentebale responded positively, demonstrating their commitment to social responsibility.

Due to the strong relationship cultivated over time, their request was not only heard but answered decisively. The seeds are crucial for advancing rehabilitation efforts at the centre.

Mr Moramotse asserted that agriculture was a vital component of their rehabilitative programs, equipping inmates with essential skills for self-sufficient production as they prepared to reintegrate into society.

“Through agriculture, we empower inmates to sustain themselves outside prison, significantly reducing the risk of returning to criminal behaviour,” he stated.

He reiterated that Sentebale’s generosity was not a one-time event.

Previously, they had donated firewood and machinery to the centre, reinforcing their ongoing commitment.

“Sentebale plays a pivotal role in our operations. Recently, they supplied us with firewood, a critical resource for daily cooking,” Mr Moramotse said.

This initiative is part of Sentebale’s robust commitment to social corporate responsibility and comes as they celebrate their fourth consecutive PMR Africa Award.

Recognized as a leader in burial services, Sentebale is making a substantial contribution to the development and growth of the country’s economy.

The donation of seeds is not just about providing resources; it is about equipping detainees with agricultural skills to thrive and earn a sustainable living once they are released, ensuring their successful transition back into society.
