MASERU — The Lesotho Off-Road Association (Lora) has engaged a top South African events management company to help organise this year’s Roof of Africa competition.
The Roof of Africa — which will be part of the 2011 World Extreme Enduro Championship — is scheduled to run from November 24 to 26 in Maseru.
Lora said South African firm, Red Cherry Adventures, were awarded the contract over a local company, Adventure Lesotho, because the “race is getting too big for the locals”.
Lora chairman Charles Mopeli said Red Cherry Adventures was chosen over last year’s Roof of Africa organisers, Adventure Lesotho, because of their reputation.
“We invited Red Cherry on board as their reputation and vast experience will add enormous value to the event,” Mopeli said.
He said Red Cherry Adventures could help organise a successful Roof of Africa because they have vast experience in organising international races.
“We are ecstatic that this organisation has hit the ground running in addressing the huge challenges the Roof demands, so soon after their own successful Winterberg National Enduro,” Mopeli said.
However, Adventure Lesotho managing director Seamus McCarthy will still work closely with Red Cherry Adventures as he is the route director.
On top of landing this contract, Red Cherry Adventures chief executive officer Mike Glover has also been nominated as the race director.
Red Cherry Adventures will on behalf of Lora deal with the race’s marketing, sponsorship acquisition, public relations and spectator hospitality.
Mopeli said they wanted to “ensure the Roof remains at the pinnacle of extreme motorcycle enduro hence we decided to invite the Red Cherry team on board.”
Glover said his company would ensure that spectators get all the action at this year’s race.
