DESPITE rain fear that seemed to grip party lovers at Royal Rock in Berea on Saturday, when the rain finally fell, they seemed to ‘ignite’ another level of joy at the Cleketseng celebration.
Dubbed the Magic 5, Cleketseng is an annual event held in celebration of the combined birthdays of Clepa and Lieketseng whose friendship has blossomed for over eight years.
The two merged their names and came up with the name Cleketseng when they started the joint celebrations in 2015.
Since the first event in 2015, Cleketseng has become a buzz word in the local entertainment scene with the #Cleketseng trending on social media.
Performances on Saturday came from DJ’s such as Cobb, DJ Thizozo, Afro Deejay, Trojan Van De’ House, Pablo DJ, DJ Gama, DJ Vesta and DJ Kopper who kept the audience on the dance floor.
Even though most were worried about the prospects of rain earlier in the day, the climax of the party came when it started raining. Instead of taking cover, revelers chose to dance in the rain.
Apart from the music, revelers enjoyed activities that include horse riding, playing water games, tug of war, face painting and paint ball.
The event also presents business opportunities to local businesses selling their merchandise, local DJs, local artistes to showcase their talent and many other activities.
Co-founder of the event Clepa Twala told the Weekender that each year they host the event for the public in celebration of friendship in a fashion driven by social cohesion.
“All the activities become fascinating because they happen outside the city and this is an adult event with some activities like face-painting bringing back childhood memories,” Clepa said.
He said they were surprised how the event has grown to even attract people from outside the country when it instead started as a gathering of close friends.
