LMPS FC will have to secure a new coach ahead of the 2023/24 season after head-coach, Tiisetso Molete, decided to dump them.

Molete joined the police outfit at the beginning of the 2022/23 season but has decided to part ways with the team.

An impeccable source confirmed this development to the Lesotho Times this week, further revealing Molete’s decision had been prompted by management’s decision to replace him as head-coach and appoint him technical director, instead.

The source further said this decision did not go down well with Molete, leading to his resignation. The highly regarded coach, who was named Vodacom Premier League (VPL) coach for the 2022/23 season,  was not available for comment.

“Molete is the one who wrote to the team to be released from his duties,” the source told the Lesotho Times.

“That was after the team had wanted to move him to the position of technical director of the club and appoint a new coach. It is clear that the coach was not happy with the decision as he did not accept the offer but rather asked that they part ways.”

Molete had a commendable season after helping the team to a fourth-place finish on the premier league log standings with 58 points.

The team had failed to make it into the top four the previous season, ending the 2021/22 campaign in sixth position on 51 points.

After the successful season, Molete was named coach-of-the-year during the VPL awards ceremony held at Maseru AVANI on 30 June 2023. He beat Linare coach, Lesley Notsi and Motheo

Mohapi of LDF, to the honour.

The Lesotho Times understands the team’s initial plan was to replace Molete with his assistant, Molebatsi Mothobi . However, that failed to materialise as Mothobi has also left the LMPS and recently

joined Lijabatho FC as assistant coach.

As matters stand, the LMPS are without a coach and would therefore, have to search for a new one or convince Molete to return. The other option would be to get Mothobi back.

LMPS FC communications and marketing manager, Thinyane Ramangoana, said he was not in a position to comment on any matter related to the status of their coaches. Ramangoana further said the team’s leadership would be meeting this week and only then would he be able to comment.

“I will have all the information regarding the matter after the meeting, which is bound to take place anytime from now, hopefully before the end of this week,” Ramangoana told the Lesotho Times.
