Mokhachane joins Botswana outfit

Bantu and national team midfielder, Neo Mokhachane, has joined Botswana premier league side VTM FC in a deal worth M100,000.

News of the deal was released by Bantu Football Club on Monday this week, with the move marking a new beginning in the football life of the skilful midfielder. Mokhachane leaves today for Gaborone where VTM are based.

“Bantu FC has agreed with Botswana side, VTM FC, for the services of skilful midfielder, Neo Mokhachane for a deal worth M100 000. Thanks for everything and all the best champion,” Bantu announced in a statement.

Speaking to the Lesotho Times on Tuesday, Mokhachane said this opportunity was a stepping stone for him as he was still aiming to play in bigger leagues abroad.

“I am very happy for this chance; I consider it a stepping stone because I am still looking forward for better opportunities. This opportunity is too good to miss and I am ready to use it to open other doors for me,” Mokhachane said.

Manesh, as Mokhachane is affectionately known in football circles, also said the opportunity to join VTM came as a surprise.

“I didn’t see this coming, but people were already saying it was time for me to go out of the country and seek a new challenge,” Mokhachane said.

He further said hard work, discipline and love for football had taken him to where he is today. .

The player also went to his Facebook to thank Bantu for giving him the opportunity to showcase his talent, adding donning the club’s jersey for the past five years had been a privilege for him. He also thanked Bantu fans for the support they have been offering him in his journey since joining the Mafeteng-based premier league giants ahead of the 2018/19 season. Mokhachane joined Bantu from ACE Maseru, who were  playing in the B Division at the time.

“Thank you (supporters) for the amazing five years of love; thank you for the support you gave me and the club. I hope it never ends. Putting on that jersey was a privilege… seeing and hearing you singing during our matches was one of the best feelings one would wish to feel. I am out of words but all I can say is that I am really grateful,” Mokhachane wrote on his Facebook page.

Meanwhile, in Botswana, Mokhachane is going to play in the same league with his former team-mates, Bokang Sello and Luciano Matsoso, who recently joined Botswana XI Police FC.
