MASERU – Maseru Sun Convention Centre is undergoing a R4.2 million refurbishment programme, the hotel has announced.
Sun International Maseru marketing manager Clix Salman said the renovations started on February 20 and were expected to last two months.
“Contractors moved onto site and began the renovations on February 20 and it is anticipated that the project will be completed around 20 April,” he said.
He noted that the upgrade is designed to provide a better environment for delegates.
The facelift includes the ballroom, the pre-assembly area and the adjoining cloak rooms.
He added: “Included in the scope of work is the upgrade of the electrical services, fire protection, air conditioning, new light fittings, walls, floors, ceiling finishes, stages curtains as well as the installation of new carpeting in the ballroom,” Salman said.
He said although the renovations were concentrated on the convention centre “the impact on the overall look and feel of the Convention Centre would be a welcome addition to the property’s existing conference offering”.
“The completed upgrade will cater for conferences for up to 400 people and formal dinners for 300 guests. Maseru Sun is fast becoming the venue of choice to host private parties, weddings and award ceremonies.”
An official launch would be held in April after the completion of the renovations.
“We already have our first event booked for end of April and this is exciting for us,” Salman said.
Maseru Sun, located alongside the Caledon River in a garden-like setting, offers 105 rooms comprising standard suites, twin rooms and one for the physically challenged.
The hotel also offers extensive dining and is a popular wedding and conference venue due to its size and service offering, Salman added.
