LNIG Hollard and Minet, working with the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, have awarded Defensive Driving certificates to 150 government fleet drivers to improve the drivers’ skills.
The certification follows the completion of advanced driving training delivered by AS Driving, a South African company offering accredited courses recognised by major insurance institutions.
Speaking at the certificate handover ceremony this week, Kefuoe Ramokhele, General Manager at LNIG Hollard Insure, highlighted the critical importance of providing drivers with advanced training.
He explained that the programme aims to elevate awareness, sharpen skills, and address driver attitude, particularly concerning the potential dangers linked to negative behaviour behind the wheel.
Mr Ramokhele reiterated LNIG Hollard’s commitment to delivering “win-win-win” solutions, expressing satisfaction with the drivers who successfully completed the advanced defensive driving course.
“We have insured the government fleet for the past five years,” Mr Ramokhele said.
“To achieve a meaningful impact for our clients, we partnered with the government and our broker, Minet, to improve driving skills. By delivering a win-win-win solution, we are helping to create a better future for our clients. We are delighted to celebrate the successful training of this first group of 150 government drivers.”
He added that the advanced defensive driving training will empower drivers to prevent accidents, safeguard lives and property, and even identify potential hijacking situations.
Mr Ramokhele stressed that this partnership underscores the value of collaboration in significantly reducing road accidents, aiming to make a lasting positive impact on stakeholders.
Representing the participating drivers, ‘Molotsi Mapetla shared that for a long time they had felt overlooked, praising the initiative and underscoring how it has made them feel valued.
“Despite the demanding nature of transporting Very Important People and government officials over the years, we felt neglected,” Mr Mapetla said.
“We deal with people, and it can be emotionally challenging. This training provides valuable tools to help us manage our emotions.”
Retšelisitsoe Leboela, Chief Executive Officer at Minet, congratulated the drivers on completing the programme and encouraged them to prioritise the safety of others.
“This training has prepared you to protect property and save lives,” Mr Leboela said. “Receiving these certificates signifies a key milestone for this initiative, and its positive outcomes will undoubtedly lead to improved services.”
LNIG Hollard Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mpho Vumbukani, expressed pride in the training’s success.
He emphasised the necessity of unity among all stakeholders.
“Let us work together to ensure a decline in road accidents,” Mr Vumbukani urged. “Now that you are equipped with these skills, you must lead by example.”
