Prime Minister Thomas Thabane has reiterated his commitment to implement a new salary structure for the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS).

In a statement issued this week, Dr Thabane, who is also the Minister of Defence, Police and National Security, said government would increase the police pay and reinstate the two percent deducted from constables’ salaries last month with immediate effect.

Dr Thabane, would however, not say when the new salary structure would be effected, but highlighted the issue was being treated as urgent.

“The anomaly of the two-percent that was deducted from the constables’ salaries last month, is being attended to by all stakeholders and members of the LMPS and the nation at large, should remain calm down, as I am working tirelessly towards reorganising the police rank-structure, as well as ensuring peace and prosperity within the service.

“I am aware of the confusion that has been brought about by this rank-structure and deduction, and would like to appeal to the police to be calm and commit to their everyday work because this issue is controversial and my office is taking it very seriously,” Dr Thabane said.
