MASERU — Likuena star Bokang Mothoana, popularly known as Lefty, has signed for Likhopo.
The midfielder had been club-less since the start of the 2009/10 season after parting ways with Tunisian side Union Sportive Monastir, after two seasons at the club.
Mothoana, 21, was one of Likuena’s best performers at the recent Cosafa Challenge. He returns to Likhopo on a short-term deal with a view to securing a move outside the country, after leaving the club in 2007.
“We are going to complete his paperwork today. It is a short-term contract,” Likhopo manager Qamako Mahao told the Lesotho Times yesterday.
Mothoana helped US Monastir reach their first Tunisian National Cup final in May this year, and played in the 0-1 loss to CS Sfaxien. He has been training with Likhopo since his return back to the country.
Meanwhile, another Lesotho international, Motlalepula Mofolo is due to sign for champions Lioli after failing to make a breakthrough at South African side Orlando Pirates.
Mofolo, who is already training with Lioli, joined Pirates’ development ranks in 2004 but failed to make an appearance for the senior side.
The linkman was a constant feature in the national team under former coach Zavisa Milosavljevic but hasn’t featured since stand-in coach Leslie Notši took over, missing out on the Cosafa Challenge.
Lioli communications and marketing manager Moeketsi Pitso said he was hopeful the 23-year-old would join the champions by January.
“He is already training with the team and we are working on his signing. He is a free agent,” Pitso said yesterday.
In another development, the Likhopo/Lioli Vodacom Soccer Spectacular quarter-final first leg that was abandoned in Butha-Buthe on Sunday will be replayed this Saturday at Ratjomose. The two sides will then continue with their league programme on Sunday.
