Mashabela and Salesman

A QUARTET of South African comedians will this Saturday join their local Basotho counterparts in a rib-cracking experience set for AVANI Maseru Hotel.

The Botsisa Bo Papago duo of Mashabela and Salesman, Malome Shordy and Rasta Eye will share the stage with local talent such as Monare, Bootz Washington, Tṧolo, Tseko “Manaka” Monaheng and Cura.

The show will also introduce Lesotho’s first female comedian, Izzy.

One of the organisers, Bofihla “Lilaphalapha” ‘Neko this week told the Weekender that the South African comedians who have previously visited the country on separate occasions were coming back due to popular demand.

“They left remarkable impressions when they performed at our previous shows and therefore the fans pleaded with us to bring them back,” ‘Neko.

“I have also been to their shows in South Africa which were sold out, proving that they are the best in the game. The most recent was the Botsisa Bo Papago show at Carnival City last month where some fans had to stand on their feet as the venue was filled up.

“The other good thing about standup comedians is that they have vast material so the audience does not have to worry about listening to the same old jokes again. The local lineup also boasts the best and therefore we intend to fill up AVANI too.”

He said some of the proceeds from the show would be donated to charity as they had always done.

“When we hosted our previous show at the end of May, we had promised to buy St Mary’s High School and Ntloana Tṧoana Primary learners sanitary pads. However, schools went for a winter break before we could do so and instead we diverted the funds to help the Lithabaneng based cancer victim, Ausi Maseabata, who we gave M6000.

“But we will fulfil our promise to the two schools after this show. We have also had more requests from the vulnerable people in different communities so we will assist a family that needs a coffin to bury a relative,” he said, adding they would address other cases over time.
