KICK4LIFE Women have clinched their first-ever Women’s Super League (WSL) title, dethroning defending champions LDF Ladies.
A decisive 5-0 victory over Bokamoso College Ladies on Sunday at Morija Ground in Maseru saw Kick4Life cement their position at the top of the table with 45 points, putting them out of reach of their nearest rivals LDF Ladies, who have 41 points.
With one game remaining, LDF Ladies’ maximum possible points tally is 44, meaning they have failed to retain their title won last season.
This marks the first time since 2017 that LDF Ladies have not emerged as WSL champions.
The 2021/22 WSL campaign was not played due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kick4Life’s triumph is their first-ever WSL title, and it has earned them a maiden qualification for the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Women’s Champions League. The dates and venue for this tournament are yet to be announced.
Kick4Life will wrap up their title-winning season with a fixture against Thaba-Tseka Ladies on Saturday.
Kick4Life assistant coach, Teboho Takisi, told the Lesotho Times this week that the team’s time to shine had arrived after years of building a strong squad.
“We have been competitive in the league, and we remained hopeful that we will win the title when the time is right – and that time is now,” Takisi said.
He added: “Going forward, we want to win the league title consecutively as many times as possible.”
Takisi attributed the team’s potential achievement to their collaborative efforts across all departments, as well as their thorough preparations ahead of the league season.
After the league’s completion, Takisi said the team would take a short break before returning to start preparations for the COSAFA Women’s Champions League.
