MASERU — A 26-year-old man from Ha-Khoeli in Berea two weeks ago handed himself to the police after he battered to death a man he found in bed with his mother.

Acting police spokesperson ‘Mantolo Mothibeli said the suspect killed the 33-year-old man after he found him sleeping with his 53-year old mother on September 18.

“The suspect went to the deceased’s home at night and found him sleeping with his mother,” Mothibeli said.

She said he began assaulting the man with a stick.

The man was found dead in his bed the following morning by his relatives.

The police said the suspect had for some time been quarrelling with the deceased telling him to stop having an affair with his mother.

The man later handed himself over to the police.

Police investigations are continuing.

In Butha-Buthe, a 30-year-old man stabbed a 55-year-old man to death on September 19 for allegedly having an affair with his wife.

The police said the deceased went to the suspect’s home where an argument erupted.

“The suspect then stabbed the deceased several times all over the body,” Mothibeli said.

The man was rushed to hospital in Butha-Buthe but was declared dead upon arrival.

The suspect was arrested immediately after the incident and will face a murder charge.

He is still in police custody.

In Khubelu in Mokhotlong, a 26-year-old man shot and killed himself and his wife last Saturday after he accused her of having an affair.

His mother had however argued with him telling him “they did not understand what he was talking about”.

“During the argument the suspect then took out a gun and shot his wife, his mother and later turned the gun on himself,” Mothibeli said.

The three were rushed to hospital but the suspect and his wife were declared dead on arrival.

The mother survived with serious injuries and is still recuperating in hospital.

Police investigations are continuing.
