When state institutions fail the nation, it is the responsibility of the
media to probe why and hold them accountable. It is what every responsible media institution must do. That is why the media is branded the fourth estate after the judiciary, executive and legislative arms of state? Unless your official domicile is beneath a huge rock, you will know that Lesotho is now a criminal hell hole overrun by violent gangsters. Investors are voting with their feet, causing the economy to remain comatose. We are now ranked alongside the failed states of South America at the top of the world’s most homicidal nations. We are essentially a failing state in which criminals kill, rape and rob as they please. At the centre of all this malaise are irresponsible security agencies which have dismally failed in upholding their constitutional responsibilities. Which is why it was a relief to read the serialisation in your national masthead, the Lesotho Times, about why the so called National Security Service (NSS) has become a hoax.
This was all in addition to the Lesotho Times’s good work in previously exposing how the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) had become a criminal enterprise itself under the crass nincompoop by the name of Holomo Molibeli.
Constitutionally tasked with protecting national interests, the NSS is – as presently constituted – unable to perform its tasks. It is neither in any position to do so. That is of course all tragic.
The organisation’s acting boss, Lebohang Mafisa, has apparently been busy. He has been busy, not with trying to re-purpose the NSS into a viable entity able to protect the security interests of the country. But with repurposing it into becoming his little fiefdom. His shenanigans have been well captured in the previous two editions of the national masthead. I shall not seek to repeat them here.
The tragedy is that while Ntate Mafisa is so excited with his acting appointment, like a little kid who has just got a new toy, and has been doing all the wrong things, murderers, rapists and robbers are smiling all the way to the morgues. As for the famo gangs, the May 2024 instrument banning them seem to have emboldened them. They have sharpened their murderous ways. We now know why the NSS, which should have been ahead of the criminals and assisted other security agencies with intelligence to rein them in is as dead as a dodo.
The reports in the Lesotho Times in the past two weeks are not hearsay. They are not based on conjecture but on hard evidence. No responsible media outlet can just rush to publish without verifying its information.
Instead of attending to the issues highlighted to improve the competency levels of the NSS, Ntate Mafisa has sadly elected to shoot the messenger.
His decision to establish a crack team to spy on the Lesotho Times is not only an abuse of office, it is a criminal act in itself. It will in no way help promote security interests of Basotho. It will in no way stop Basotho from being killed. It will in no way stop investors from fleeing. It will in no way improve the economy. Someone must educate Ntate Mafisa on the role of the media. We are watchdogs of society. We have no business being nice to anybody. We exist to hold state and private institutions accountable. We should thus not be victimised for doing our work.
The question I pose to Ntate Mafisa on behalf of all my colleagues is…What do you intend to achieve by spying on the Lesotho Times? Are you going to boost the numbers of your agents located at the NSS’s dilapidated building adjacent to the Lesotho Times’s office to facilitate the spying? Are you planning to harm our staff? Do you want to establish the number of our staff members so you can all by us Dominos pizzas? Whatever the motive, Scrutator urges Ntate Mafisa to desist from any ill intentions against the Lesotho Times and focus on fixing the NSS. Every country needs a proper intelligence agency to protect its interests. Imagine Israel without Mossad. Britain without MI6 or America without the CIA? These great nations would not exist. The Lesotho Times has nothing against Ntate Mafisa. That much I can state categorically. In fact before his acting appointment, we did not even know that Ntate Mafisa was part of the human species. So the claim by one Machesetsa Mofomobe that we are trying to sabotage him from being confirmed is breath taking in terms of its stupidity. It’s also not a good omen when Machesetsa starts lobbying for anyone.
Machesetsa: the ultimate moron
Scrutator is now convinced beyond any shred of doubt that for one to be a member of something called the Basotho National Party (BNP), they either have to be mad, be an intellectual midget, a nincompoop, a dunderhead or all of these. For starters, what’s the use of being a member of a party that has no hope in hell of ever winning a single constituency seat? You surely have to have no respect for yourself to be a member of a party led by a half crazed buffoon and maniac like Machesetsa.
It is not surprising that the small trickle of remaining BNP members are voting with their feet. Thank God, because of that, we are likely to not ever have a single backdoor PR seat for the BNP after the 2027 elections. That means not having to endure the trauma of hearing from Machesetsa ever again.
For all his faults, Thesele Maseribane was a decent man. The BNP had an aura of respectability under his leadership. That all vanished the day BNP members entrusted stewardship of their small, insignificant “political party” in Machesetsa’s hands. The man is not only a clown and lunatic, he thinks with his ass. Nikuv aside, the BNP would have been in a better place with Joang Molapo at the helm.
Machesetsa, the man known to have once kept multiple nyatsis in the NSS, in an attempt to infiltrate the organisation and access its information during the Phello Ralenkoane days, was apparently miffed by reference to his alleged liaisons with Ntate Mafisa in a Lesotho Times article last week. Instead of giving his side of the story in an appropriate manner, if he felt it was incorrect, he threw his usual childish social media tantrums aimed at the owner of this newspaper, Ntate B. Peta, calling him a Zimbabwean “terrorist”.
Obviously because of his anthropological stupidity, Machesetsa, does not know the different roles in a media company between a CEO, a publisher, an editor, reporters and so on.
Because of his ignorance, foolishness or all, Machesetsa believes a publisher actually writes stories, and in this case, stories about a miniscule and irrelevant party like the BNP. How silly?
Anyway, because of the laughable tantrum, Scrutator reached out to Ntate Peta for a comment on Machesetsa’s charge that he was a Zimbabwean “terrorist”, “expelled” from his country. Ntate Peta laughed his lungs out and commented as follows: “It is my long held policy never to argue with idiots and fools, otherwise spectators may not spot the difference…..I am not going to change that policy now and you won’t succeed in persuading me to change it….So don’t even try.”
Because of the silliness of Machesetsa’s tantrum, Scrutator tried again to ask Ntate Peta to comment, if only for comic relief. He retorted: “I have never met or heard of this Machesetsa fellow since I invested in Lesotho….Who is he? What does he lead? Does he actually have any supporters…? Even if I were to alter my policy and start engaging with morons, I still see no value in being asked to respond to whatever every Tom, Dick and Harry says. I surely have better things to do….”
Ntate Peta’s refusal to engage with Machesetsa is understandable. Machesetsa tend to get oversized publicity for a leader of an inconsequential, useless and moribund small “political party” with no future in the country’s politics. It’s high time he should be ignored.
Machesetsa has been taking advantage of the void left by Ntate Mathibeli Mokhothu, who is generally a very quiet man for an opposition leader. Ntate Mokhothu ought to up his game and be the real spokesman for the opposition. Whenever he opens his mouth to expose his unbrushed teeth, Machesetsa not only discredits his failed BNP, he discredits the whole opposition. Which explains why the ABC is ditching the opposition coalition against the reforms of which Machesetsa has been the designated spokesman. Lesotho deserves better than this moron to speak on such an important topic as the reforms.
One must read his trashy social media posts to ascertain that all of the man’s tiny brains are located in his left buttock. He has nothing in the head. He is totally empty. And remember, he is the same Machesetsa who believes a BNP government will boost Lesotho by ditching the United States as a development partner and establishing diplomatic ties with Kim Jong Un’s North Korea. This is not a joke, Machesetsa actually announced it as a BNP policy proposition. There can be no better slimy scumbag of course?
Ache!!!
