THE much anticipated debut Maseru performance by South African disc spinner, DJ Merlon, last Thursday was not to be as the Kose Kuse hit-maker did not pitch up.
Entertainment outfit, Kuna Sounds, had billed DJ Merlon to rock Times Café for the first time with posters promoting the show lining up the streets.
However, much to the dismay of revelers, DJ Merlon’s name was removed on the show’s Facebook promotional page the night before the event and only leaving the local artists who were also lined up to perform. The admission fee, which was initially pegged at M80, was also changed to free.
Contacted for comment, Kuna Sounds boss DJ Tseko was evasive, saying he did not give interviews to newspapers.
“I have nothing to say to you since you always write nonsense about me. In fact, I do not like newspaper articles because, instead of giving me good coverage, they tarnish my reputation,” DJ Tseko said.
Attempts to reach DJ Merlon were fruitless, with the Weekender only managing to get in touch his booking agent, S’busiso, who said they had no formal arrangement with Kuna Sounds.
“We have not yet reached any formal agreement with the Lesotho organisers, so we are not at liberty to comment on whether DJ Merlon will be in Maseru or not at the moment,” said Sibusiso.
The 28-year-old DJ Merlon specialises in House music and has worked with prominent names in the business such as Zakes Bantwini, Lvovo Derrango, DJ Terrence, Moneoa and DJ Tira.
He rose to fame following the release of Kose Kuse which became a club anthem in both South Africa and Lesotho.
