MASERU – The Lesotho Taekwondo Association (LTA) will on Saturday hold a tournament to select players for the regional championships to be held in Angola next month.
The selection process, which was due to take place at ‘Mabathoana High School, was postponed last Saturday due to a serious water crisis that hit Maseru last week.
The tournament had been called to select players for the Confederation of Southern African Taekwondo Association Games (Cosata) games scheduled for Angola.
LTA public relations officer Mojapela ‘Mefane confirmed the changes in an interview with the Lesotho Times on Tuesday.
“The national champions’ tournament was postponed to this Saturday because of lack of water in the country,” ‘Mefane said.
He said it was impossible for his association to continue with the tournament last Saturday without running water.
“We expected 32 male and 32 female players to come and compete for a place in the national team,” ‘Mefane said.
“With this number, spectators and officials it was impossible for us to continue with the tournament in a place where there was no water,” he said.
He however said the association had agreed to stage the tournament this Saturday at Sefika High School.
“We are going to proceed with the tournament this Saturday at Sefika High School at 8am,” he said.
‘Mefane said the tournament was going to be used to select eight players who will represent Lesotho at the Cosata games in Angola.
“The main purpose of this tournament is to select four male and four female players who will represent the country at the Cosata games,” ‘Mefane said.
