LESOTHO Volleyball Association (LVA) president Lehlohonolo Ncheke says the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Zone VI is impressed and confident that Lesotho is ready to host this year’s Zone VI Clubs Championships.

The CAVB Zone VI delegation made up of its president, Khalid Casam, secretary general Ringisai Mapondera, and gender minority member Moho Palime (based in Lesotho) was in the country over the weekend to assess Lesotho’s readiness to host the games.

The games are scheduled for 7 to 17 December 2023 in Thaba Bosiu, Maseru.

Ncheke said because the country does not have an indoor sport facility to host such games they opted for a hall, Lesotho Wool Centre Hall in Thaba-Bosiu.

He said the hall was big enough for them to set-up playing courts and temporarily lay wooden flooring.

According to Ncheke the Zone VI delegation was impressed with the progress and venue.

“The delegation was in the country to check and test the facilities identified for the games, and I can confirm that they were happy,” Ncheke told the Lesotho Times.

“With our main challenge being lack of facilities, when we were given the chance to host the games, the president told us to use any necessary means to grab the opportunity. And seeing the hall we have identified he said Lesotho has gold in it. The president was also happy to see the purchased wooden floor for the games which is normally used for basketball, but said it was also approved for these games.”

He further mentioned that they are doing all in their power to make the games a success.

“On our side preparations are on the right track and we want to make the tournament a success,” Ncheke said.

Ncheke said the tournament will feature teams from Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, eSwatini, Malawi, Zambia, Namibia and from the hosts Lesotho.

Lesotho was given the hosting right for the men and women indoor 2023 edition in January 2021 during CAVB Zone VI annual general meeting (AGM) in Maputo Mozambique.

This will be the first time Lesotho will host such a big zonal volleyball tournament which will also incorporate CAVB Zone VI AGM.

The AGM, which will bring all the member countries’ presidents and CAVB representatives to Lesotho, is set for 15 to 17 December 2023.
