—as it celebrates three decades of existence

Moroke Sekoboto

ALLIANCE Insurance has committed to repaying Basotho for their loyalty to the company in its three decades of existence by helping vulnerable communities, especially children.

The company’s Public Relations and Corporate Communications Manager, Limakatso Mokobocho, said as part of their 30-year anniversary celebrations, the company had lined up 30 charitable projects focusing on health, social welfare, education and entrepreneurship.

Ms Mokobocho said hunger and malnutrition had, for the longest time, compromised school enrollment, regular attendance and learning of children from destitute families.

This had therefore compelled her company to reach out to the needy as it marks its three decades of existence, Ms Mokobocho said.

“In December we donated meals to Baylor Children’s Foundation to alleviate hunger and malnutrition. Lesotho has a high rate of hunger and malnutrition, and Baylor has five facilities across the country…. Hence we chose it as a vehicle to help children unleash their full learning potential to break the inter-generational cycle of malnutrition,” Ms Mokobocho said.

“Our objective is to live a lasting legacy in communities hence we have a campaign ‘Our legacy is yours’ which isn’t only a tagline but our heartfelt promise to always be there for Basotho.”.

She said the company had also donated two fully furnished classrooms, an office block, and a solar panel to Kelibone Primary School in Quthing, as part of its drive to assist the needy in the country.

“We were informed of the harsh conditions at Mphaki High School where all grades were being taught in one building. When we got there we found an old, cracked and leaking church, and when it is raining children simply don’t go to school. We wanted children to learn in a healthy and conducive place….,” Ms Mokobocho noted.

“We have also adopted Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso’s Hlokomela Banana initiative where we are donating pads to five schools in five districts. The schools are Lesobeng Primary School (Thaba -Tseka), Prince Mohato High School (Maseru), Seleo High School (Mohale’s Hoek), Maliepetsana High School (Mafeteng) and Hareeng High School (Quthing).

“We also sponsor four Vodacom Premier League clubs, Matlama, Linare, Lioli and LCS as well as the premier league tournament, Alliance Winter Challenge. In supporting entrepreneurship, we have various office blocks in the country where different Basotho businesses operate from.

“Alliance has also partnered with Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC) in promotion of tourism in the country. We have installed landmark frames at Thaba-Bosiu, Semonkong, Thaba Li Mele, Qiloane and Sani Pass view point and more are still coming.”

She said tourism was instrumental in economic growth and job creation hence they wanted to first promote domestic tourism.

She added: “We had the vendor project where we donated M800 000 across the country post Covid-19 pandemic to street vendors as capital to relaunch their businesses. Furthermore, Alliance contributed M1.5 million towards the procurement of Covid-19 vaccines.”
