MEN’S national cricket team coach, Alexander Mavhiko, has named a 14-member squad for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifiers, scheduled for 18 to 26 October in Abuja, Nigeria.
The team will be captained by Tšepiso Chooana, with Lebona Leakoake serving as vice-captain.
Mavhiko has largely retained experienced players but has also introduced new faces, including all-rounder Jabulani Matjatje, who has graduated from the Under-19 team, and Mohammed Farook.
Mavhiko said he sought to strike a balance between experience and youth when selecting the squad, with current form among the key considerations.
“Actually, it is a mixture of experienced players and new blood,” Mavhiko told the Lesotho Times this week.
“We have tried to balance the squad with players who have been working very hard. As one could see, we have a number of four all-rounders as we want to have depth in our batting. We have a lot of spinners as well.”
The coach said the team would travel to South Africa this weekend for four friendly matches against The V Academy and Kroonstad Cricket Hub Under-18 as part of their preparations for the qualifiers.
In Nigeria, Lesotho will face Gambia, Mozambique, Nigeria, Uganda and Zambia in the qualifying tournament.
