VODACOM Lesotho this week launched Dynamic Airtime, a digital solution that lets customers buy airtime electronically without relying on physical recharge vouchers.
The service allows customers to load any amount onto their mobile number, starting from as little as M1.50, instead of being limited to fixed voucher denominations.
Vodacom Lesotho says the move is designed to modernise the prepaid airtime ecosystem, giving both customers and airtime vendors greater flexibility, safety and convenience.
Dynamic Airtime is available to Vodacom Lesotho customers, as well as wholesale dealers, retail dealers, super dealers and community-based airtime sellers.
For vendors, the system removes the need to leave their point of sale to restock physical vouchers or hold denominations that may not match customer demand. It also cuts their exposure to cash and physical stock, and eliminates the costs and risks tied to printing, transporting, storing and handling vouchers – including loss, theft and damage.
The transaction itself is simple: a vendor enters the customer’s mobile number and the requested amount, confirms the customer’s details – including the name registered to the SIM – and the airtime is credited electronically.
Customers, in turn, no longer have to worry about damaged or unreadable recharge PINs.
Vodacom Lesotho’s Executive Head of Department for Sales and Distribution, Palesa Kaloli, said the launch marked a step towards a more efficient and inclusive digital economy.
“Dynamic Airtime is an investment in a smarter, safer and more inclusive airtime ecosystem. It gives customers greater control over how they recharge, while helping our trade partners serve communities more efficiently, with lower risk and greater value,” Ms Kaloli said.
“For us, this is what practical digital inclusion looks like: removing everyday barriers, widening access and making connectivity more dependable for Basotho.”
