MASERU — The Lesotho Football Association (LEFA) is looking for a substantive chief executive officer, the Lesotho Times has learnt.
An advert for the post was expected to be flighted in the media this week.
LEFA administration officer Mohapi Mokhosi has been acting as the CEO since Mafole Sematlane quit in September last year.
Sematlane did not say why he resigned.
LEFA public relations officer Baba Malephane confirmed that the association is on the hunt for a substantive CEO.
“Yes, we are hiring a chief executive officer,” Malephane said.
Malephane said Mokhosi had acquitted himself well while acting as the CEO.
But he has to apply if he is interested in the substantive post.
“He was doing a great a job but we cannot confirm him without following proper procedures,” Malephane said.
“He is at liberty to contest for the post like any other applicant.”
The move to hire a permanent CEO comes a week after an England Football Association delegate, Paul Mullen, made recommendations to LEFA on football administration and marketing.
Meanwhile, Lesotho’s football bosses have sent out a warning to all players who miss call-ups to the national team.
LEFA ordered LCS players Mpitsa Marai, Khoto Sesinyi and Refiloe Potse not to play for their team last weekend as punishment for snubbing a national call-up a fortnight ago.
But the trio defied the mother body, prompting LEFA to issue out a fresh warning.
According to LEFA’s statutes players who miss a call-up cannot play for their league teams at the following weekend.
Mohapi said LEFA will this week meet LCS officials over the players’ action.
“There is going to be punitive action against them,” Mohapi said.
“Serial offenders will be dealt with harder.”
However, offending players will still be considered for national team duty in the future.
In the meantime, Lesotho are yet to find opponents for a proposed friendly international this month.
