TELECOMUNICATIONS giant, Vodacom Lesotho, has launched SME Connect, a new digital solution designed to empower small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the country.
The initiative, unveiled in Maseru this week, aims to provide affordable, integrated business tools to help SMEs grow and compete in the digital economy.
The SME Connect comes in two packages: the Access Suite, which provides essential tools, and the Managed Access Suite, which offers advanced capabilities.
The service aims to address the challenges of limited access to affordable business tools by bundling services at reduced rates, making enterprise-level solutions accessible to small businesses.
Speaking at the launch, Vodacom Lesotho’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohale Ralebitso, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting the SME sector.
“We are exceptionally proud to introduce SME Connect, a product that embodies our firm commitment to Lesotho’s vibrant SME ecosystem. Our vision is to empower every business, irrespective of size, with the digital resources necessary to flourish,” said Mr Ralebitso.
He highlighted that SME Connect offers tools such as online platforms for showcasing products, secure cashless transactions, and access to digital devices—all aimed at fostering economic growth and digital inclusion.
The Vodacom Business Executive Head, Lisemelo Ramafikeng, added that digital transformation was key to the success of SMEs.
“Our ambition is to act as a catalyst for growth, supporting SMEs as they evolve into larger enterprises. Digital solutions are the key to unlocking this potential,” Ms Ramafikeng said.
She also said having a strong digital presence was crucial for attracting investors in today’s globalized economy.
The Basotho Enterprise Development Corporation (BEDCO) representative, Lemphane Lesoli, described SME Connect as a much-needed solution for the sector.
“SMEs form the backbone of Lesotho’s economy. Digitisation is no longer optional—it is a necessity for efficiency, cost reduction, and improved customer experience,” Mr Lesoli said.
The initiative also received government backing, with Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Business Development, Palesa Matobako, who said it aligned with the government’s strategy to position SMEs at the heart of economic transformation.
