MASERU — After the recent international break, local club football roars back to life at the weekend.
The Vodacom Soccer Spectacular and two mouth-watering ties are lined up.
On Sunday two sides will join Maduma and LDF in the semi-finals of the M1 million tournament.
The semi-finals and final will take place next weekend with the winners walking away with a cool M360 000.
In the first of the ties, Matlama host rivals Lioli at Setsoto Stadium.
Tse Putsoa, winners of the tournament in 2009, take a 1-0 lead into the encounter after an impressive 1-0 win in Teyateyaneng in the first leg late last month, thanks to a goal by Pali Tšalong.
Speaking to the Lesotho Times yesterday, Matlama communications and marketing manager, Lesolle Phalatsi, said the Glamour Boys were raring to go and playing at Setsoto would be a further boost.
“We have prepared very well and playing at Setsoto Stadium will help us. It’s one of the fields that our supporters believe is theirs and they will come in their numbers,” Phalatsi said.
Matlama will also welcome back Nkau Lerotholi, Thapelo Mokhehle, Tšoanelo Koetle, Pali Tšalong and Dlomo Monapathi from successful national duty.
“It will help, it will bring a new mood to the team and they will bring a high spirit,” Phalatsi said.
Should Matlama proceed past Lioli they will meet LDF in the semi-finals.
However, Phalatsi said they will not be taking Lioli lightly.
“If Lioli can gel they can give us a serious challenge. They have the players, you can’t write them off. We have to think of Lioli only, not LDF,” Phalatsi said.
In Sunday’s other semi-final, Bantu and LCS clash in Mafeteng in what is another humdinger.
The match is tied at 0-0 after the first leg played at the Central Prison four weeks ago.
It is a clash of arguably Lesotho’s top two sides at the moment, Bantu being the recent Independence Cup champions and LCS the league champions.
