MASERU — It was a night of worship at Manthabiseng Convention Centre last Saturday.

The occasion was the eighth anniversary celebration for private radio station, Harvest FM.

South African gospel musician Solly Mahlangu, who was the main act, gave a moving performance and ended up in tears.

The star praised the goodness of the Lord and how he survived and made a mark without knowing who his father was.

“My mother was raped at the age of 15 but never thought of aborting the pregnancy. Thanks to her I am a son of God, a born again and through the goodness of the Almighty I have seen glory,” Mahlangu said.

“I have lived all my life not knowing my real father but in God I have found a father.”

The songster broke down and cried.

It was an emotional moment.

But luckily, the surprise act, Kgotso Makgalema, immediately broke into song giving his friend the strength to continue.

Mahlangu was billed as the main performer at the Harvest FM’s Eighth Anniversary alongside locals Jerry Mohale, Tsepo Kherenchane, Fusi Mathoma and Makoanyane Ntlama.

Mahlangu, who recently teamed up with Makgalema, had brought the I Want to Sing Gospel finalist along as a surprise act.

When Mahlangu eventually regained his composure, he joined Makgalema on their song Watsamaya Lerona which drove the crowd crazy.

The event also saw Pastor Sithandani Mofokeng giving a sermon on the importance of inviting Jesus into one’s life.

Over 800 fans swamped the Mathabiseng Convention Centre’s auditorium to celebrate Harvest FM’s eighth anniversary.

The event started at 8pm, two hours behind schedule.

But that seemed not to dampen fans spirits as they chanted gospel songs by the billed acts.

Among guests who graced the annual gospel gala was the Minister of Communications, Science and Technology, Mothetjoa Metsing, who promised to help the station expand its coverage to the rest of the country.

“This is a great thing to see people gathered together with God in mind. Harvest FM is doing a great deal and I promise to help it expand throughout the country,” Metsing said.

“This gathering of worship means the station is giving people faith and hope of living because with God everything is possible.”

The station manager, ’Malichaba Lekhoaba, thanked all the supporters of the station.

“We are where we are today because of your support. You have been by our side through prayers, funding and your listenership,” Lekhoaba said.

Harvest FM’s two presenters, Molefe Ratsoane, and Letlatsa Maqaphalla, were later handed two personal cars as a token of appreciation for their service to the station.

Lekhoaba pledged to work hard to expand the station’s frequency to the rest of the country.
