MASERU — Lesotho captain Lehlohonolo Seema says he is positive about his road to recovery and a return to the field soon.
Seema, arguably Lesotho’s finest ever football export, was released from a loan deal last month by South African Premier League side Mpumalanga Black Aces due to a knee injury that some classified as career threatening.
Seema, who has been plagued by injuries over the past two years, returned to Orlando Pirates where he has been undergoing a rigorous rehabilitation programme with the club’s doctors.
Speaking to the Lesotho Times yesterday Seema said he was concentrating on getting back to full fitness.
“I’m doing my rehab with the club doctors and specialists,” Seema said.
“At the moment I’m just focused on the rehab and regaining fitness and I don’t want to look too far into the future,” Seema said.
Seema was positive about the initial results of his rehab programme but admitted it was still slow.
“It’s slow progress,” he said.
It is now 19 months since Seema last played competitively because of injuries, which robbed him of an opportunity to build on his impressive spell at Pirates which saw him being awarded the captain’s armband.
For over a decade Seema has shone in South Africa’s elite football league since joining Bloemfontein Celtics from hometown team Bantu in 1998.
In 2005 he captained Celtics to their first cup win in 20 years before moving to Soweto giants Pirates in 2006.
Seema has made almost 200 league appearances in the South African Premier League and after frustration on the sidelines Seema is finally making steady progress.
In an interview with South African football website KickOff.com this week Seema said he will keep fighting to recover fully from his injury.
“It has been a long and frustrating period but I won’t give up. I have left everything to God and if it doesn’t work out in football then I will have to accept it and move on with my life,” Seema said.
