MASERU — A partner in prominent law firm, Webber Newdigate Attorneys, has been appointed a judge in the recently established Commercial Court.
King Letsie III appointed attorney Lebohang Molete, 51, to join Justice David Lyons, an Australian judge, on the Commercial Court bench.
Lyons was seconded to Lesotho from the Commonwealth earlier this year to establish the Commercial Court.
The Commercial Court is a division of the High Court.
Molete becomes the first Mosotho to join the Commercial Court bench and will be under the mentorship of Lyons.
The Commercial Court was established this year as part of the civil legal reform project funded by the Millennium Challenge Account, an American funding package meant to modernise poor countries.
Molete will only join the bench in February next year.
Molete joined the legal profession in 1982 when he started serving articles with Webber Newdigate Attorneys.
He was admitted to the legal practice as an attorney in 1984.
He became a partner at Webber Newdigate Attorneys in 1989 and has been with the firm since then.
From 1984 to 1989 he worked as a professional assistant at the firm.
Since 1994 Molete has dealt with commercial, litigation, labour and patent cases.
He has also been involved with the privatisation of major corporations in Lesotho.
He has also worked as a consultant for the World Bank’s “Doing Business” project.
He is a registered and practising member of the Intellectual Property attorneys in Lesotho.
