BETHLEHEM — Free State Stars striker Noah Chivuta was thrilled with his double against Ajax Cape Town which halted his side’s losing streak on Saturday.
Ea lla Koto had lost twice on the trot — to Kaizer Chiefs in the Telkom Knockout tournament before Mamelodi Sundowns rubbed salt on their fresh wounds in a league encounter last Wednesday.
On Saturday the losing streak appeared set to continue when Marion Booysen scored for Ajax a minute into the game at Goble Park Stadium.
The goal however stung Stars into action as they sought an equaliser which would not come until after the break.
And Chivuta proved to be Ajax’s nemesis again.
The Zambian striker, whose goal booted the Urban Warriors out of the Telkom Knockout tournament last month, found the equaliser for the home side in the 51st minute with a thunderous bolt into the top right-hand corner.
Ten minutes later Chivuta was on the mark again with a strike that sealed a much-needed win for the Steve Komphela-coached side.
“Our coach is working hard at training to make us a better team and it was unfair to let him down,” Chivuta told the Lesotho Times after the match.
“We knew what to expect against Ajax. We beat them in a cup competition and surely they came hungry for revenge.”
Chivuta said a tongue-lashing by Komphela during halftime had spurred them to win the match.
“My team mates showed character and I was happy with that,” he said.
