MASERU — Lioli Football Club on Tuesday received a whopping M400 000 cheque from their sponsors Alliance Insurance.

Lioli signed a sponsorship deal with Alliance Insurance in August last year that would see the club backing the insurance firm’s funeral scheme.

The M400 000 includes M200 000 that will go towards the buying of a new kit for the club next year.

The other M200 000 will be used to meet the club’s day-to-day needs.

Thabiso Madiba, the manager of Alliance’s Life Insurance Division, said the company was delighted with the progress of the Lioli funeral scheme.

“We are delighted that we are now in our second year with Lioli. There were 1 500 members of the scheme in September and the number has since grown to 2 000.

“As Alliance we have never had a product that has been so successful,” Madiba said.

He said the company was “committed to Lioli and its players and hoped to take them to the highest level”.

The occasion also saw the club hand out awards to players who excelled last season.

The club finished second in the Vodacom Premier League behind fierce rivals Matlama.

Youngsters Teboho Lekhooa and BafokengMosala walked away with M500 each after they were named most improved and most disciplined players respectively.

Mohau Kuenane was named Goalkeeper of the Year while Seenyane Nthejane was named the club’s Top Goal Scorer.

They each walked away M700 richer.

Club captain, Thabo Masualle, was voted the club’s Players’ Player of the Year and received M700 for his efforts.

Motlalepula Mofolo won the grand prize of M1 000 after he was named Lioli’s Player of the Season.

Lioli president, Lebohang Thotanyana, said the club had big plans for the future.

“Alliance has spent M500 000 on us in the past year. This year our plans are huge. Lioli has been the standard bearer and we want to continue to show the way,” Thotanyana said.

“I would like to thank our fans because without them none of this would have been possible.”

Meanwhile, Vodacom Soccer Spectacular champions Likhopo celebrated their victory at Victoria Hotel on Tuesday night.

“We just said lets go all out and win the tournament. We were optimistic because of the concerted effort that is part of the culture of Likhopo,” Likhopo manager Qamako Mahao said.

“The prize money will go towards improving our transport and to the players’ welfare.”

Mahao also thanked the club’s sponsors Victoria Hotel, the Matekane Group of Companies, Multech and Mateanong Exports and Imports.
