THE Lesotho Cricket Association (LCA) this week received a five-seater Nissan Note vehicle donation from Auto Group Motor Cars Dealer.
The car was handed to LCA at the Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission (LSRC) offices in Maseru on Tuesday.
Auto Group manager, Setsomi Mathealira, told guests at the handover that the M37 000 worth car is meant to help the association run its daily activities.
“We hope this car will help the association overcome transport difficulties in its daily operations,” Mathealira said.
“The car will also help the association in traveling to different cricket hubs across the country. Even during tournaments, the car will be helpful as it will be used to transport players’ food, drinks and for many other errands.”
He pleaded with the association to use the vehicle for its intended purpose.
“We plead with the association to guard the vehicle jealously. We hope and believe that more is coming out this friendship,” Mathealira added.
For his part, LCA president Sebajoa Sebajoa said the gift came at the right time.
“This gift came at a time when we had just started a model of excellence where have created hubs in Mohales’ Hoek, Maseru, Leribe and Berea. The car will help us monitor and evaluate the activities in the hubs.
“We used to face challenges traveling outside the district but car will make the outreach programmes easier,” Sebajoa said.
He also promised that the vehicle would not be abused.
Acting LSRC president Teboho Malataliana hailed Auto Group for their investment in cricket. He said cricket was one of the fastest growing sports despite financial challenged.
“This is a good step towards the development of the sport. The company will have to fill in tax exemption forms at the Lesotho Revenue Authority (LRA) in accordance with our agreement with the authority.
“Even though some federations are struggling because we did not give them subventions, cricket has continued to develop,” Malataliana said.
