MASERU — Lioli will spend M120 000 to erect a fence around its home ground in Teyateyaneng before the start of the season.
Work started on Tuesday this week.
The team also plans to put new turf on the ground once the fence is erected.
This is the first time that a local team has built a fence around its stadia.
Lioli were the first club to have a business partner and wear a sponsored kit.
The Teyateyaneng giants will also be the first side to have player contracts when the 2010/11 Premiership season kicks off.
Lioli hope to finish the improvements on the ground by the end of September.
The barrier, which is a 1.8 metre steel fence, will completely surround the ground.
The project will include making the old built entry point at the ground the main entrance for cars and vehicles again.
With a budget of M120 000 the improvements on the stadium will cost much more than what the team generated from the league last season.
Lioli received M60 000 for finishing second in the Vodacom Premier League last season.
“It will cost M120 000, it is a steel fence. We want to stop access from everywhere both when the team is playing and when it is not,” Likotsi told the Lesotho Times on Tuesday.
Likotsi said after placing the fence they would turn the ground around from where it is facing before placing a new turf. The ground is not positioned correctly according to Fifa regulations. All grounds have to be facing north to south.
Lioli’s ground has been typical of playing fields in the country that lack security.
Last season Lioli were charged after their fans attacked match officials after a 3-1 loss LMPS in a league match.
Lioli were subsequently banned from playing at home and had to play their last three home games away from Teyateyaneng.
Meanwhile, Likuena star Ramashalane Taeli has hinted he would be open to a return to football if Lioli offered him a good contract.
On Monday, it was revealed Taeli would be leaving Premiership side LCS to take up work with a road construction company in Thaba-Tseka.
However, Lioli have made it clear they want to sign Taeli.
Speaking on Tuesday, Lioli’s communications and marketing manager Moeketsi Pitso said Lioli wanted the Berea-born midfielder to be one of the 25 players when Tse Nala hands out contracts at the end of the month.
But Taeli said the most important issue now for him is to earn an income.
“They haven’t talked to me yet. It depends how long the contract is and how much they offer,” Taeli told the Lesotho Times on Tuesday.
“It has been a very difficult decision (to retire) but you cannot just wait for a chance that you will be signed. I have to focus on life. Football in Lesotho is just entertainment.”
Taeli, who is only 28 years old, joined LCS from Sekamaneng Young Stars in 2005 and helped them to consecutive championships in 2006/07 and 2007/08, the 2008 MGC Supa 8 and the Vodacom Soccer Spectacular in 2008.
He would be the second Likuena international to retire from the game in as many months.
Last month 27-year-old Joy midfielder Moli Lesesa said he was leaving football to concentrate “on other important things in life”.
