LCS’ newly signed striker Keketso Snyder is likely to face a one season suspension from the premier league for allegedly signing three concurrent contracts with different teams.
The former Majantja, Bantu and Sky Batallion striker recently moved to LCS but Lioli has claimed that the player signed a three-year contract with the club last month. On the other hand, Matlama also say the player signed a contract with the club in June.
Lioli general manager Matobako Hlalele confirmed to the Lesotho Times that they have a three-year running contract with Snyder signed last month and were shocked to hear LCS claim the same last week.
“He is our player as far as I am concerned because he signed a three-year deal with us and we were shocked to hear LCS unveiled him as their player last week,” Hlalele said.
Hlalele said they intend to write to the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) general secretary, Mokhosi Mohapi and the players’ status committee to seek advice.
“We are seeking advice from the LeFA secretary general and the players’ status committee so that we know how we can go forward on the issue.
“We cannot go to LCS now because this issue is between us and the player, so we need to follow the right procedure,” he said.
LCS general manager Lehlohonolo Matlosa said they haven’t heard any formal complaints regarding the player’s status and had only seen the issue on social media.
“What I know is that we have signed the player. I cannot say whether he has a contract with other teams or not but we have his clearance here with us and he is training with the team.
“No team has ever approached us and inform us that he (Snyder) is on their books and we only learnt of such issues on social media so there is nothing we can do about it.
“He told us that he didn’t have a contract with any team, so for now, we can’t say anything. Maybe we comment later when there has been anything official communicated about the said player,” Matlosa said.
However, Mohapi said the player is likely to face a one season or a half season suspension if found guilty by the players’ status committee for putting football into disrepute.
“He actually signed with three teams because I personally saw the Matlama contract that he signed in June. I am also told he has signed with Lioli and LCS but there has not been any official complaint for now. I asked Matlama to write the formal complaint so that the players’ status committee deals with the issue.
“If found guilty, he will possibly be suspended for a season or half a season for putting football into disrepute,” said Mohapi.
Mohapi incidents like this are caused by dishonesty adding that they caused confusion among teams.
“Such behaviour is not welcome in football. Players must always be honest about their status to avoid causing unnecessary havoc between the teams. So, he will take responsibility of his actions if found guilty,” Mohapi said.
Matlama could not be reached for comment yesterday.
