THE stage is set for this year’s opening of the Afriski Winter Music Festival which promises to be a bigger edition compared to the previous editions.
Organisers say they have partnered with South African musical fiesta, Pop Bottles Entertainment for the festival which is held at the 3222-metre above sea level resort.
The snow-themed Pop Bottles Ski Festival will kick-off tomorrow and run till Sunday afternoon featuring top local and South African entertainers.
Hailing from South Africa, prominent disc spinners such as Dimples, Vigilante, Milkshake, Shimza, Khenzero, Capital, Speedsta, Shaxe Khumalo, Ayanda MVP, Kabza Da Small, Kyotic, Soulkid, Fubz, Hudson and Twins on the Decks will share the booth with Lesotho’s nightlife kings such as Veenushka, Nine24, Konsept and Trybz.
The performance list also boasts of heavyweights such as Anatii, Selimo Thabane, Gemini Major, Juvy and Tshego.
Organisers have dubbed it as a “weekend full of entertainment including all night parties, skiing and snowboarding, adventure activities and memories to last a lifetime, whether one is a hip hop lover, outdoor enthusiast or pro snowboarder, all are welcome to the best ski resort in Africa”.
Afriski’s operations manager, Peter Peyper, told the Weekender that collaborating with Pop Bottles was aimed at making Afriski an entertainment hotspot.
“This is deemed to be the biggest opening season of Afriski in history and it is the first time that we have partnered with Pop Bottles,” Peyper said.
“Through events like this, we are trying to improve our offerings to keep people intrigued for them to continuously keep coming back to the resort.
“We are also trying to increase our clientele through new initiatives and further promote local artistes. This festival is going to expose them to people from all over the world.”
Pop Bottles Entertainment started as an intimate movement in Johannesburg aimed at celebrating prominent DJs’ birthdays. Nightclubs in South Africa loved the idea and upgraded it to become a festival which has now grown to cities like Durban, Cape Town and Bloemfontein.
On behalf of Pop bottles Entertainment, DJ Spane, said this festivity will give Pop Bottles and Afriski followers a totally different experience.
“I approached Pop Bottles last year asking them to have a Lesotho edition and they have been looking for something unique about Lesotho and I told them ‘let’s go snowing’.
“While they were on it, they started Pop Bottles international, which piloted in Mauritius where they hosted a pool-themed party. It then moved to Botswana for the waterfront party.
“Lesotho is the best when it comes to snow, so this edition is going to be the best Pop Bottles followers have ever experienced. Afriski patrons will have a different taste of fun,” DJ Spane said.
