The Lesotho Volleyball Association (LVA) will next month hold an awards ceremony to honour outstanding players who shone during the 2016 season.
LVA Public Relations Officer, Buller Phalatse, told this publication that they had requested all clubs that participated in the 2016 volleyball season to compile a list of players that deserved to be honoured.
Thereafter, the public will vote for the best players via the short message service (SMS).
“We will start with the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 24 February which will be followed by an awards ceremony in the evening,” Phalatse said, adding, the awards will be bankrolled by the volleyball league’s main sponsor, Metropolitan Lesotho.
He however, said the door remained open to other companies that might be interested in making the awards even bigger and better.
Regarding the power struggles that have rocked the LVA, Phalatse said they were waiting for a report from the Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission (LSRC) and Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC) who are mediating in the dispute. He also said they were communicating with international volleyball bodies on the matter.
Former LVA president, William Nhlapho, told this publication late last year that the current committee led by Mpho Palime was unprocedurally elected into office.
“We have taken our issues to LSRC and LNOC for mediation. The international associations have also promised to get back to us by the end of the month.
“The good thing is that these issues have not affected our participation in regional competitions and our two teams, LDF and Redskins managed to participate in a regional competition where the latter won bronze and qualified for the African Championships,” Phalatse said.
