TWO girls were found dead in the early hours of Tuesday at Sempethenyane in Maseru, with wounds which police say could have resulted from stabbing.
Deputy Police Spokesperson, Senior Inspector Lerato Motseki yesterday told the Lesotho Times that according to the parents’ explanation the girls aged 19 and 15 years old had left their homes the previous night, came back and later left again that night.
“They were known to be drunkards who were used to the nightlife,” Senior Inspector Motseki said, adding “Their parents admitted that they knew about their children’s behaviour and they never questioned the way they lived”.
“The girls were found dead at Semphethenyana in Ha-Besele with many wounds that seemed to have been inflicted by a very sharp weapon,” Senior Inspector Motseki said.
She appealed to the public to come forward with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspected killers.
“We will work hard to find the suspects but we need to work with the public to bring to book the perpetrators of this awful crime,” she said.
She also appealed to the parents to play their parental role in raising their children to behave responsibly to avoid such tragic consequences.
She said community policing starts within a family before spreading to the community level.
“Parents need to have moral values to ensure their children grow up knowing very well the ‘do and don’ts. The issue of discipline needs to be instilled early on but that does not give anyone the right to take a life for whatever reason,” she said.
