MASERU — In their last game before the Cosafa Castle Challenge Likuena could only muster a goal-less draw in 120 minutes against a reserve South African side.
The match was played at the Central Prison ground on Tuesday afternoon.
“I am satisfied with the performance,” Likuena caretaker coach Leslie Notši said.
“There are areas that we have been working on and I observed them during the game.”
Regarding the Cosafa challenge, Notši said: “Our target is to win our games. We are going to take one step at a time.”
Likuena play their first game of the tournament against hosts Zimbabwe next Monday before facing Mauritius on Wednesday. Lesotho will be without Likhopo striker Thapelo Tale and Matlama defender Nkau Lerotholi because of school commitments. They have been replaced by Orlando Pirates’ Katleho Moleko and Bantu’s Tlali Maile.
Likuena leave for Zimbabwe today.
Meanwhile, this weekend’s much awaited Vodacom Premier League clash between Bantu and Lioli is off.
The game was due to be played in Mafeteng this Sunday but it has been postponed because four Lioli players – Mohau Kuenane, Thabo Masualle, Brown Makobe and Sello ‘Muso — have been called up for Likuena’s national team duty.
Clubs that have three or more players in the senior team were given the opportunity by the Premier League to request the postponement of their games.
The clash between Nyenye Rovers and LCS has also been postponed because Masheshena have five players with Likuena, Sam Ketsekile, Khoto Sesinyi, Mpitsa Marai, Moitheri Ntobo and Ramashalane Taeli.
However LMPS, who have three players in the Cosafa squad, will have to play as scheduled because they did not apply to have their matches postponed.
All of Saturday’s matches have been moved to Sunday to allow for burial of Lefa’s central secretary ‘Matlali Mofoka.
Meanwhile, Matlama have been awarded three points and three goals for their game against Swallows that was abandoned after Swallows fans attacked the referee.
