FANS of clap n’ tap music are in for a treat this weekend with local ensemble, Balopolloa Ba Morena, hosting South African group, Universal Khatisma, at AME hall in Maseru.
Based in SA’s North West Province, Universal Khatisma is a 102-member Apostolic in Zion church group which was formed in 1993. The group has so far released eight studio albums and four DVDs with such notable offerings as Moya, Mosadi wa Lota and Alikho Igama.
According to Balopolloa Ba Morena founder, Reverend Ben Mosala, Universal Khatisma will perform on Saturday starting at 8pm and Sunday at 1pm. In addition to ministering to their fans in Lesotho, he said the concerts would also provide his 93-member group with invaluable exposure.
“Since Universal Khatisma members play trumpets while our group is into clap n’ tap, it will be an opportunity to learn something different,” he said in an interview this week.
“The concert will also expose our group and music lovers to a different type of sound.”
Reverend Mosala added that they would also host another SA group this month before sharing the stage with clap n’ tap luminaries in Johannesburg next month.
“Vusi and the Mighty Singers, from Shawelo in South Africa, will also grace us with their presence on 28 and 29 November, with our final show on 5 December,” he said.
“As the ambassadors of clap n’ tap music in Lesotho, my group will share the stage with other South African clap n’ tap groups such as Jerusalema e Ncha and Barorisi Ba Morena at a festival to be held in Soweto.”
On his part, Universal Khatisma leader Bishop Qaba said Basotho should expect to be “swept off their feet and lifted higher to the heavens” during the concert.
“We have already performed in Swaziland and Botswana, but this will be our first time in Lesotho. Our group is very much looking forward to the fiesta and we are raring to give our all to gospel music lovers in Lesotho,” he said.
“Clap n’ tap is a spiritual and edifying type of music which also serves the purpose of entertaining apostolic believers. Basotho should expect a mind blowing experience because of our energetic performances and unique style.”
Local groups, Barutoana ba Morena and Naleli ea Bophelo, are also billed to perform during the show.
