MASERU –– The case in which Police Commissioner ‘Malejaka Letooane is asking the court to set aside or review her conviction on a charge of contempt of court has been set for Monday.
Letooane was convicted of contempt of court two weeks ago and was sentenced to six months in prison.
The police boss failed to appear before the court on August 14 to explain why she may not be convicted for ordering the release of a stolen vehicle that was kept by the police, pending finalisation of a case of car theft against one Mojake Ramoroke.
She however appealed against the sentence and conviction and got a stay of execution in the High Court.
The crown on Monday indicated that they needed more time to respond to the respondents’ papers.
Mojake’s lawyer, Advocate Haae Phoofolo, argued that the application was made on an urgent basis without informing them as the respondents.
He insisted that the case should proceed or be removed from the roll.
