VETERAN South African Hip Hop deejay, Vigilante, is billed to rock Maseru once again at Khubetsoana-based entertainment joint, Club 4Fordy, on Saturday.
The Benoni-born Vigilante is among the first Hip Hop deejays in South Africa. His career started in 2007 as the opening act for established artists. The breakthrough came after he featured on such television channels such as Channel O, SABC 1 and etv in which he showcased his disc spinning skills during programme interludes.
Vigilante, real name Tebogo Seema, is currently a Metro FM anchor and the only deejay signed under the Cashtime Family stable. He rose to prominence with the track God’s Will which features rappers AKA and KO. Although he has performed in Lesotho before, this will be Vigilante’s first headlining gig. He will also be introduce Basotho to his latest single Sorry Makhe on which he features L-Tido.
One of his favourite quotes is “One day we will learn that the heart can never be totally right if the head is totally wrong. Only through the bringing together of head and heart – intelligence and goodness- shall man rise to a fulfilment of his true nature”.
The Saturday event has been dubbed “Hip Hop Hooray” which is more or less similar to one of Vigilante’s hits Motswako Hooray, Motswako being a sub-genre of hip Hop.
According to the co-owner of 4Fordy and organiser of the event, Moeketsi “Individual Max” Manoeli, the event will also commemorate the 40 years of Hip Hop’s existence.
“Since 4Fordy is one of the few, if not the only club that plays Hip Hop in the country, we want to celebrate the 40 years the genre has been in existence,” Manoeli said.
“We have decided to focus more on the ‘deejaying’ aspect and that is why we are bringing one of the veterans of Hip Hop blending.
“We have been friends since 2010 while I was still in Johannesburg and that is when I learned about his extraordinary skill.”
He also revealed that the performers lined up will play Hip Hop from the different eras, from the first decade of its existence to its modern version.
Manoeli will also make part of the all-star line-up set to play the old-school jams, alongside Ebonix, The Hitman, Untitled DJ, Da Star, Veenushka, Shaixtacy and the main act Vigilante.
