MASERU — It’s been an unbelievably hectic week for Karabelo Mokoallo since she was named Miss Vodacom-PC FM last Saturday.
The 22-year-old stunner is still over the moon about the first prize of a brand new Chevrolet Spark car which came with the crown.
“It’s so great,” Karabelo told the Lesotho Times yesterday.
“I’m not driving yet until I get used. But I have a driver’s licence.”
Karabelo, a laboratory science student, said she planned to register the new car in her hometown of Butha-Buthe today.
“I’m going to register the car in Butha-Buthe,” she said. “I want it to have a B registration plate.”
Karabelo said she still felt like all her sudden fame was a dream.
“Yesterday (Tuesday) I walked from Vodacom offices to the main taxi rank and I was very afraid. I felt like everyone was looking at me,” she said.
“I feel like I’m still dreaming and someone is about to wake me up. I believe everything that happened was the will of God.”
Karabelo said she had not expected to win the coveted crown because she was not good at speaking in public.
“I’m not good at speeches. I can’t talk you know,” she said.
“When it came to question time, it was really hectic for me.
“Pageants like Miss Vodacom are concerned with those who can express themselves.
“Then now we had those I knew could speak.
“Amazingly, I was able to talk. I just told myself to be positive.”
“I’m grateful to God. It was not easy,” she added.
Karabelo said congratulatory messages had not stopped popping into her mobile phone inbox.
“I’ve been receiving a lot of smses congratulating me, even from people I really don’t know,” she said.
Karabelo, who is also the reigning Miss Lesotho Companies, said her family could not believe her success.
“My family were so happy and even those relatives out of the country phoned to express their happiness,” she said.
“It was like a dream. They were excited.
“When we arrived home we had an impromptu braai. We started celebrating.”
Karabelo emerged victorious from a strong field of 16 beauties who all wanted to land the keys for the brand new car.
Refiloe Letokoto was crowned the first princess, with Masello Jafeta settling for the second runner-up’s spot.
The Miss Vodacom PC FM event attracted a full house at Manthabiseng Convention Centre last Saturday, with South African musicians HHP and Lira thrilling the crowd.
Local performers, led by Fatere, also made the show unforgettable.
