‘… It was all down to confidence’
ROMA — Maseabata Molapo was crowned Miss NUL (National University of Lesotho) 2014 at this year’s edition of the annual pageant held at the Netherlands Hall on Saturday.
The 19-year-old stunner, who was born and bred at Khubetsoana in Maseru, beat 13 beauties to walk away with the Miss NUL sash and tiara.
Nts‘ebo Bereng and Mathabo Rajane emerged as First and Second princesses, respectively.
Molapo is a second year law degree student at the NUL.
This was only Molapo’s second time to contest but, judging by the way she acquitted herself on stage, the impression was that she had been competing in beauty pageants for years.
An elated Molapo told the Weekender that confidence was the key to her success this time around.
“My determination, passion and confidence helped me to win,” a beaming Molapo said.
“The competition was tight as there were so many pretty ladies who have experience on the cat-walk. I was a bit shocked when I was announced the winner. “I also thank those who supported me by cheering for me during the competition as this boosted my selfesteem.
“I am going to use this title to inspire and motivate other ladies to get educated. I am first going
to be the change that I want to see in other people.
“The title has served as the highlight of my modelling career since I wish to compete in international pageants,” she said.
One of the judges, Refiloe Pheku, who is the former Miss Vodacom PC and the reigning Miss Vitality, was of the view that Molapo deserved the crown.
“The ladies were all beautiful, but Molapo exuded a lot more confidence and has natural, dark beauty,” said Pheku.
“With contests like this exposing the beauty in this country, we are definitely bound to take over international pageants.”
Pheku also said that she wished the organisers would do something about the rowdy crowds that invade the stage during presentations as they tend to divert the attention from the contestants.
Entertainment was provided by MIP’s Basali Basali All-stars and NUL Dancers, while DJ Mekonko was hitting the decks.
Casual attire was provided by Basutoland Ink while Captain Dorego’s (Maseru Border Branch) provided catering services.
