NIGERIA – Police in the city of Onitsha in Anambra State who made a grizzly discovery last August when they found two severed heads in a Hotel close to Ose-Okwodu market have released the name of the man at the centre of the investigation.

According to local tabloid Osun Defender, Law enforcement officials also found two Russian made AK47 Rifles, two army caps, 40 rounds of live ammunition and multiple cell phones.

The proprietor of Upper Class Hotel, Mr Bonaventure Mokwe and ten other individuals were arrested in the sting. Four men and six women were arrested after a several tip-offs from locals.

SEVERED HEADS

The two heads belonging to a man and woman who are yet to be identified were found  wrapped in cling film and it is alleged that they has recently been separated from their owners.

UNWITTING ACCOMPLICE

Speaking about the macabre incident, an unnamed pastor was quoted as saying “I went to the hotel early this year, after eating, I was told that a lump of meat was being sold at N700, I was surprised. So I did not know it was human meat that I ate at such expensive price.”

A vegetable vendor  reported to have tipped off the Police said on Thursday “Each time I came to market, because the hotel is very close to the market, I always noticed funny movements in and out of the hotel; dirty people with dirty characters always come into the hotel. So, I was not surprised when the police made this discovery in the early hours of yesterday.”

VICTIM OR VICTIMIZER

Mrs Nkiru Mokwe the wife of the hotel owner claims her hubby was set up by those who want to take his wealth. It is her contention that the heads were planted by enemies.

Mrs Mokwe, a lawyer, said “My husband is being detained in a very dehumanising condition at SARS, Awkuzu, and the police have denied him access to his lawyer and relations… My husband’s hotel at No 8, Old Market Road, Onitsha which he inherited from his father, Chief G.C Mokwe, has been demolished.”

Appealing to the Federal Government of Nigeria to intervene, Mrs Mokwe revealed that her husband was the victim of an “assassination” attempt in 2009.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Emeka Chukwuemeka confirmed the incident and stated the police had intensified manhunt for the all members of the cartel to the Daily Sun.
