MASERU — Miss University Lesotho has produced many intelligent and beautiful ambassadors in the past four years.
The recently crowned Miss University Lesotho, Sebabatso Ratšele, told the Weekender that she wishes to use her newly-appointed status to change the world.
“It has always been my dream to attain the power that could help me change other people’s lives.
“I was so excited when I was chosen out of 25 ladies and found it fit to carry the pageant’s sash and tiara throughout the reigning period.
“I have been competing in beauty pageants since 2012. Although I have been losing, my mother always told me not to despair and I made it this time,” she says delightfully.
This 19-year-old Thetsane-born beauty is a second year law student at the National University of Lesotho. She says her first step is to be an example to her school.
“NUL can be a very dangerous place. It has a lot of challenges and obstacles. One can easily be misled by the bad influence others have.
“I am first going to be the change I want to see at school. Now that people show me a bit of respect and some look up to me, I am going to use this privilege to advise the students on how to tackle the social problems they encounter.
“I have seen most people’s dreams disappearing into thin air due to peer pressure and abuse of drugs, so I believe it is time it stops.”
Ratšele also said her responsibility does not stop at NUL.
she intends to address youth as a whole about life challenges.
If things were to be done her way, she would make Lesotho a drug-free nation where people respect and love each other.
She further told the newspaper that she is also happy that she will be able to sell Lesotho to other countries as she will be representing it later on this year in Miss University Africa to be held in Nigeria.
“With the confidence that the crown has instilled in me, I now have what it takes to take on the rest of the world,” she said.
