MASERU — The Lesotho national Rugby team, Likatola, is looking ahead to the future with confidence after beating the Eastern Free State squad 43-22 last Saturday.
According to Federation of Lesotho Rugby secretary general, Litšitso Motšeremeli, the result is a motivation for the newly assembled Lesotho rugby national team that is hoping to compete at a higher level in the future.
“The win was a good sign that the future is bright for the team going forward and we just have to keep playing more friendly matches to keep in good shape,” Motšeremeli said.
“It was surely going to be difficult for our team as it is still early days for them, but that was very impressive to win against rugby players who have been playing at a higher level.
He said they were impressed because it was the first time that Likatola had played a match together since the formation of the team.
“It was our first match since the formation of the team and it looks very bright going forward,” said Motšeremeli.
The match against the Eastern Free State squad helped the team get the much needed game time after the Tri Nations test matches against Botswana and Swaziland were postponed.
“We engaged in talks with other teams in South Africa to try and get the team more matches,” he said.
He told this paper that they have approached the Bloemfontein Crusaders and they hope to play them in the coming weeks if their proposal succeeds.
Motšeremeli added that the team is facing serious challenges to get funds for their activities.
