MASERU — Hlotse giants, Linare on Sunday proved their intentions of ending a long drought for a major title by winning the TJ Glass and Aluminium Tournament walking away with the M20 000 first prize money and a trophy.
The Thulo Leboela coached side have been enjoying a good form since winning the pre-season King’s Soccer Spectacular Challenge, beating rivals Lioli and Matlama to lift the trophy.
Tse Tala, as the Hlotse based team are affectionately known, once again overcame their rivals from Maseru and Teyateyaneng to win Sunday’s four-team tourney that was held in Botha Bothe.
Linare coach, Thulo Leboela, believes that this is the sign that his team is finally ready to end the long drought for major trophies.
His team is unbeaten in their opening two matches; having beaten LMPS 3-0 in the opening league match and securing a 1-0 win over LCS last weekend.
Leboela told the Lesotho Times that he intends to bring back the glory days to the Hlotse based side after long, painful years without a major trophy for a team with so much history.
“I still maintain that we will be challenging for honours this season and I’m very impressed with the performance of the team,” said Leboela.
Leboela, who is also the club’s legend, said there is still room for improvement and the target is to collect as many points as possible in the first round matches.
Linare visit LDF over the weekend after the international break and Leboela said he is confident his team will continue with their fine form in the new season.
Last Sunday’s tournament was sponsored to the tune of M70 000 by TJ Glass and Aluminium, Saverite and Blue Ribbon. Each of the teams got a M5 000 appearance fee while the winner pocketed M20 000.
The home side Maduma on the other hand were presented with a soccer kit worth M20 000.
The tournament was graced by the presence of the Minister of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation, Thesele ’Maseribane, Deputy Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Mechechane constituency, Apesi Rats’ele, Member of Parliament for Botha-Bothe constituency, Motlohi Maliehe, District Administrators of Leribe and Botha-Bothe as well as the Lesotho Football Association executive committee member, Thabo Pule.
