Women’s U20 set to lock horns with Kenya

MASERU — Lesotho’s Under-20 women’s team will take on Kenya in a World Cup preliminary tie next weekend.

Maleshoane Mokhathi, the Women’s Football Development Committee president, told the Lesotho Times on Tuesday that the team will go into camp to prepare for the tie.

“About six girls will be coming into camp from tomorrow (yesterday) and the rest of the team will join them on Friday till the game with Kenya,” Mokhathi said.

“The six who are coming are out of school and all in all we are looking at bringing 20 girls into camp.”

The return leg will be played on November 19 in Maseru.

The qualifiers are to select  countries that will take part at the Under-20 World Cup in Uzbekistan in 2012.

Mokhathi said they were expecting a tough match against the Kenyans especially after failing to get all players into camp.

“You are aware that this is examination time for our Form C and E students who comprised a larger number of the squad.

“This has affected our preparations a lot because we had to ensure that those who will be sitting their end of year exams are excluded together with those who are over age,” Mokhathi said it was still not clear who Lesotho’s opponents will be if the team gets past Kenya.

“There has not been any clarity on that at the moment. I guess it’s because of the long break that will be there between the preliminaries and the group stages,” she said.

The group stages will be played beginning in February next year.
