THE Ministry of Health’s director general of health services, Nyane Letsie, has been suspended for alleged under performance.
Dr Letsie’s suspension is with effect from 28 July 2020. The suspension was communicated to her in a letter by the ministry’s acting principal secretary, Lesimole Moletsane.
Dr Letsie has been replaced by Dr Limpho Maile, who will act in her position.
“You are hereby notified that you are suspended on full salary payment from the office with immediate effect following allegations that you have habitually and deliberately underperformed in your duties as director general,” Advocate Moletsane states in her letter to Dr Letsie.
“Your suspension, which is aimed at allowing investigations over these allegations, is to be carried out without your interference, and shall be in effect until such investigations are complete…
“During your suspension, you should neither interfere with any matters of the Ministry of Health nor enter the premises…with the purpose of carrying out any duties.”
Dr Letsie was ordered to immediately handover the keys to her office to Adv Moletsane.
This is Dr Letsie’s second suspension in as many years after she was suspended in 2018 over allegations that she sent an undeserving patient to India for the cancer and renal patients’ treatment programme.
Dr Letsie sued the government over the 2018 suspension but lost the case.
Despite losing the case, she was later reinstated by the then Health Minister Nkaku Kabi who said he wanted to work with her.
