MASERU — Mamoroalo Tjoka and Motlokoa Nkhabutlane were the big winners at last Sunday’s BMI Independence half marathon as the two runners won the female and male competitions respectively.
The two top athletes walked away with M4 500 as the first prize money.
Chaplin Development Athletics Club (CADAC) President, Chaplin Mpomane, said he was happy that the race was able to attract the best local and international athletes.
“I am very excited and impressed that the race went on as planned and it was successful,” Mpomane said.
“It was very interesting to see some of the top athletes local and from outside the country taking part in this year’s race.
He said the race was part of the Independence celebrations across the country and they plan to make it an annual event.
“The plan is to also see the race help us in developing young athletes hence there was a race for those under the age of 17,” said Mpomane.
“We will even be opening an account to raise funds to organise resources for young athletes especially those who come from orphanages,” he said.
Mpomane, the organiser of the race thanked Blue Mountain Inn Hotel for sponsoring the race.
